Questions

How do you make them?

I make everything myself by hand, starting with a ball of clay. To get a feel for the whole process, check out this video of me making a mug.

Can you eat and drink out of them?

Of course! All the glazes I use are safe for food and drink, hot or cold.

Are they microwave and dishwasher safe?

Everything except black glazes is safe for the microwave. Any piece is safe in the dishwasher, but I recommend hand washing to better protect the pieces and help them last longer.

Why is this dish already cracked? Is it broken?

Hairline cracks in the surface of the pottery, known as kannyu in Japanese, are a natural result of using materials that expand at different rates. You may notice them appear in my pottery, especially after heavy use with hot liquids. These cracks are more noticeable with lighter glazes. Some potters intend these cracks to be part of the design.

The existence of these cracks in the surface of the glaze doesn’t make the dish unsafe to eat or drink from. Check out Google for images of how kannyu can be used creatively in pottery!

Do you do custom orders?

Yes. I love the challenge of creating something new. The process usually takes two months from start to finish, depending on the size of the order.

Take a look through my gallery for ideas and at my shop for an idea about pricing. For bulk and restaurant orders, discounts are available.
